High School Career Program Offers Refugee TutoringSD Refugee Tutoring is an all-inclusive high school program designed to prepare students for the rigorous requirements of the college and university. The educational program includes an immersive four-year college program that focuses on the core curriculum areas of mathematics, science, reading, writing, and analytical skills. The program also offers an on-campus internship that is designed to prepare students for entrance exams to either colleges or universities.When students sign up for SD Refugee Tutoring, they have the opportunity to choose a mentor. The program is designed to work with mentors in a one-on-one setting. Students are involved in all aspects of the learning process, including planning activities, tutoring them, and providing feedback on their work.The first year of SD Refugee Tutoring is focused on academic preparation. The student receives individual attention on the topics of classwork, course work, and college pr eparatory assignments. During this time, the student is taught how to manage their time effectively and how to plan their study schedules.The student will be assigned to a tutor to ensure that they get a personal attention on a daily basis. They will also learn methods on how to deal with daily distractions, such as family members, roommates, or classmates. The student will be mentored by a professional teacher who will ensure that their goals are met.In addition to working with the students in class, the student will receive weekly and daily assignments that provide homework help and review. These include both supplemental-grade homework assignments. The assignment options will be included in the student's weekly/daily to-do list so that they can complete assignments at their own pace.When students complete the coursework from SD Refugee Tutoring, they will be given a capstone project that will reinforce their college prep and prepare them for their college entrance exams. This pro ject will focus on college readiness and provides them with the tools needed to succeed in college. It also provides the students with the necessary exposure to college life.During the program, students are introduced to community service. Many of the students will be able to volunteer and have the opportunity to attend educational events and meetings related to the administration of refugee issues. Since this is a career-focused program, there will be opportunities for students to network and establish connections in the community.Students will be able to participate in extra curricular activities, such as club and interest groups, and art programs. The students will also have the opportunity to enjoy campus life, participate in extracurricular activities, and engage in campus politics. Students will be able to have a positive social experience and an environment that are conducive to success.
